Transporting your pet
Getting Your Pet to the Vets - Transport Options
We understand that not everyone has access to their own transport, and getting your pet to the practice can sometimes be difficult, particularly if they are unwell or you need to attend an appointment at short notice.
If you do not have access to a car, we recommend thinking about how you would get your pet to the practice before you need us in an emergency.
Ask a Friend or Family Member
Where possible, consider whether a friend, family member or neighbour could help transport you and your pet to the practice.
It can be useful to have someone in mind who you could contact should your pet become unwell and need to be seen urgently.
West Yorkshire Pet Ambulance
West Yorkshire Pet Ambulance provides specialist pet transport, including veterinary ambulance and medical transfer services. This may be particularly helpful for pets who cannot easily travel in a standard vehicle.

Uber Pet
Uber Pet is another option that may be suitable for transporting you and your pet to a veterinary appointment.
When booking through the Uber app, select Uber Pet to request a pet-friendly vehicle. Pets should be safely secured using a suitable carrier, lead or harness, and owners should remain with their pet throughout the journey.
Availability may vary depending on your location.

Planning Ahead
If you rely on others or do not have your own transport, we strongly recommend having a transport plan in place for your pet.
Unfortunately, there may be occasions when your pet needs veterinary attention urgently and it is not safe to delay treatment while transport is arranged.
Things to consider include:
- Who could help you in an emergency?
- Do you have the contact details of a pet transport service saved?
- Do you have a suitable pet carrier, lead or harness readily available?
- If you use a taxi or private hire company, have you checked whether they accept pets?
Having a plan in place can make a stressful situation much easier and help you get your pet the veterinary care they need as quickly as possible.
Please note: Donaldson’s Vets does not operate a pet collection or transport service. West Yorkshire Pet Ambulance and Uber Pet are independent third-party services. Clients are responsible for arranging their own transport and should contact the provider directly regarding availability, suitability and charges.
