Hoping no ‘Turkey Tum’ for our gang ?? !!
One year, while visiting relatives, one of my Labs was caught trying to suck the chocolate out of the chocolate coins on the xmas tree. Then he tried to eat Brazil nuts etc (complete with shells) out of the nut dish !
Have they all got new homes to go to ????
I believe 2 are still looking!!
Hi Linda. We have 2 puppies left. both are cracking bitches. you can contact me at Maple Street surgery on 01484 421512 if you are interested. thanks for your enquiry. Martin
My little siamese Lexie now has 5 bells on her collar and still fetches birds and mice home, so its a sonic collar for her!
Will you looking for homes for these?
Hi Steve, unfortunately all the puppies have homes already, but if you’d like to call Martin on Monday (01484 421512) he can give you some info on a future litter which is planned, or possibly contacts for others with puppies available. Thanks.
Hi I have been looking into dog neutering and have seen a article about free neutering for staffys can you tell me more about this please. Regards donna
apologies for the delay; I have only just noted your post. You could try Yorkshire Rose Dog Rescue on 07815 632871.
Hi I am from West Yorkshire and have been advised to contact you about spaying vouchers. I live on my own and have recently rescued a staffy puppy from a friend from going into a rescue home. I work full time and don’t receive any benefits so I don’t think I qualify for the vouchers but as I have another dog I need her doing but as I live on my own I can’t afford too. Is there any way you could help or know anyone who could? Many thanks hannah.
Hi Hannah, the Dog’s Trust and/or Kirklees Council Wardens service may be able to assist with vouchers.
Hi Hannah, further to last post, the Dog’s Trust suggest you write to them at:
17 Wakley St
They are likely to be able to help even if you are not in receipt of benefits.
Not happy about this at all. Not sure how cats are going to feel about ‘uncle’ Graham leaving them either!
Staffie Sue of Marsden is looking for Aspley on the map as I write….
Graham, how can you do this to us? It won’t be the same at the Birchencliffe surgery without you. I think the Maple Street surgery can expect an influx of animals and owners following you there.
So sorry to hear you are going to Maple Street GM,
You will be very much missed at Birch by clients AND staff alike!
Its been a pleasure to work with you, wishing you every success x
c ya x
I’m all for microchipping but I doubt things will change much from how they are now, ie responsible owners microchip their dogs while irresponsible ones just stick 2 fingers up at the authorities.
That was one expensive takeaway!
Glad I wasn’t in the waiting room when that happened 🙂
Shared on my page…thank you for the warning
AWFUL Our thoughts are with Janette and John, we met them many times on our walks x
Hope he recovers soon
Poor Old Lad 😉
All Dogs trained or not should be kept on leads in childrens parks, for the safety of everyone. Being a Dog owner myself is frightened when seeing Dogs off leads, not knowing what might happen, something needs to be done!
The puppies are really sweet, she must be a great Mother
It must have been a relief for Blossom to have all the puppies in this litter naturally after last year’s c-section. For anyone interested in the colour inheritance of Labradors, this site shows what you can expect from each combination http://www.blueknightlabs.com/color/coatcolor.html
They are so cute Martin their Mum must be so proud
I would add those who advertise kittens below SIX weeks let alone 8 – one recently offered kittens only a few days old “as long as you can bottle feed them”. Mum was still around apparently so the only motivator must have been money. Or people who sell pregnant cats. Or the many people who get rid of the pet because a baby is due or they have a job or they feel the animal needs more attention (this, usually, when the animal concerned is an older pet of a colour and type not eay to home). It would help if people would think before buying pets in the first place!
Thank you for letting us know
I think most people know how dangerous grapes and dried fruit are but you don’t think of acorns being potentially fatal to dogs.
Thanks for this…my dog has just recovered from an identical thing, and had to be on a drip for two days. We have been unsure of the cause of his gastroenteritis, but having just read this I have made the link as he has been eating green acorns over the last few weeks!
Well done you have always been so good and kind to all our animals, thank you
Congratulations !! Huddersfield has it one and only Veterinary HOSPITAL Well deserved!!!!
Thank you for sharing this
Very informative. Thank you x
Willie is definitely obese. He’s on a strict diet/exercise plan to try shed some pounds before the spring grass comes through and makes it even harder. X
Spot on job today spaying poppy. Pass thanks onto Rhona & the team.
This is an essential service provided by Donaldsons. I would not want to think if one of my dogs was ill threw the night I couldn’t get hold of a vet untill the morning.
All of our vets have pets of their own, and regard them as part of their family; we would expect them to be able to access the same emergency care we would receive for our human family members, and feel this is an essential service.
When Rosie, the Airedale, had her stroke we were able to rush her down to Maple Street at 9,00 at night. She received excellent, quick treatment and made a full recovery. We always say we received far far better service from the vet this we would get from the NHS! We value the night time service and would be sorry to lose it.
Thank you for your kind words Margaret; I am glad Rosie is better, and I can assure you our practice fully intends to continue to provide this essential service
Thank you for clearing this up & hopefully we will all be on the look out
The Assured Breeder Scheme has, as you say, come in for a lot of criticism and I know a lot of people who have resigned from it because they don’t feel it goes far enough. I would like to think that the new requirement for a breeder to be inspected before being awarded ABS status is a big improvement. Ensuring that litters are produced from health tested parents is, in my opinion, an absolute must, it’s just as shame that the ABS doesn’t make any stipulations regarding what those results should be.
Good luck :))
It sickens me to see dogs still being left in cars in the hot weather. Maybe if some of the owners were made to sit in a car in the same conditions they’d finally appreciate just how hot a car can get in such a short time.
Hi I have 2 female dogs that im wanting to have spayed but im struggling to raise the money for thrm both doing im not on any benifits and im not entitled to any do you ha e any neutered vouchers? Or something on them lines thank linds
Kirklees council may be able to supply you with assistance vouchers for neutering (contact the Dog Warden Service), or the RSPCA May be able to assist.
Hope this helps…
I am the very proud and happy owner of Eddie, in honesty 6 weeks ago I really didn’t think I would be bringing him home with me- and yet here he is. I have so much respect for his team of experts, Rhona, Amy, Claire and Emma, their commitment and dedication is beyond question, as is the level of knowledge and expertise. Eddie is indeed up and running and living it large- as is his way! His rehab continues, I know he is in the best hands. I wish Bailey and her family continuing success- she’s in great hands as well. Thank you to you all.
Personally I would like the ABS to tighten up their requirements and not allow the registering of a litter under their scheme, where the bitch has no elbow score and the most recent eye test is 17 months ago. Until they bring their standards up to mine I certainly won’t be joining!
Would like to say big thank you for looking after Tina Mitchell my mum dads dog happy Christmas,!!!!! Xxxx
What a truly wonderful story. Well done Donaldsons. Hope Harvey makes a full recovery. Cheered me right up this story 🙂
Fabulous story ….live And enjoy life Harvey !!!
Great news glad Harvey is better ð¶
Harvey is defo getting the best care. Having gone through similar with my dog Roxie. Donaldsons were brilliant! All the best Harvey & his owners xxx
Harvey is my dog and I am so happy that he is doing well. Thank you everyone xx
Kim Bird beware x
Shared to various Rescue groups, thank you x
Oh dear ill share
He’s fully vaccinated against Rabies and we have followed all passport regulations and guidelines Kerry, thank you for the tag though hopefully he will be ok xx
Oh good don’t want him poorly x
mum of Leo and Lexie, both Siamese – and regular customers!
Keep up the good work Martin we know you’re the best !! Hope she’s not one of ours. Shouldn’t they be green wmeyes for oriental or us she cross bred ? Anyway well done mate
Brilliant work, very challenging speedy recovery Bluebell x
Looks like my back?!
Amazing! Great job!
My dog, Dakota suffered heat stress about 4 years ago, and it was such a frightening experience for all. Thankfully, your quick actions when we brought him into your surgery meant he made a quick and full recovery, but I am extra careful with him now xxx
I used the chewable worming tablets you stock for my dog recently, and worming him suddenly became treat time and enjoyable rather than a battle of trying to pin him down and force the tablets in ……. and they protect against lung worm as well which is definitely an added bonus 🙂 xxx
I’m glad Broccoli is on the mend.
Something similar happened to one of my sister’s cats recently. Sickening.
Donaldsons have always been fab with our exotics. We trust Andrew 100% after Sid left. All staff are friendly and welcoming even when Benson comes to visit 🙂
Don’t know if this is hogweed but it’s growing in Beaumont park?
Pet remedy is brilliant. I used it on my Siamese who are terrified of fireworks
all we got were a few ear twitches
Ivy gets very frightened but last year a friend told me to wrap her up. I bought a kids (so it was fairly tight but not restricting) cotton long sleeved polo neck and she wore it in the house, really worked well. That CD sounds good to, will check it out
A difficult journey but defo the most rewarding and Dexter agrees
Rescue pets are worth every second of the hard work they need. ð
Luckily my mutt likes fireworks, he tries to jump up to the multi bombs and screamers.
Congratulations to both of you! x
Congratulations! Great job and very professional.
Shelley says ‘hello!’ 🙂
Well done, wouldn’t dream of taking my animals any where else, a first class service ð
Congratulations Martin! I for one am very happy that you took that journey 20 years ago. You have helped my ever growing clowder so much, through the good and also some very sad times and for that I am so very thankful. As I am also sure that the thousand of people that follow Amun and Horus page are that you believed in them. Here’s to another 20 years!
I would never have entrusted anybody else’s advice when we had the hard decision to make re our beloved Dalmatian Jarrah. Martin had looked after her care on many occasions we had to bring her into the surgery. We lost her just over 4 years ago at the sad age of 13.5. Congratulations on the last 20 years and here to quite a few more. Makes such a difference when you can trust the advice you get from your vet.
Congratulations big hugs from our three who you have cared for so well over the last 6 years
Congratulations on your 20 Years celebrations, Martin & Rachel, all the best in your futures in the job you both love 😀 From Moose xXx
Congratulations Martin and thank you for your professionalism and compassion showed towards Ethel in her short life and your continued care with Wilf – here’s to the next 20 years !!!
Congratulations on 20 years Martin and Rachel, that means it’s 20 years since I left! I can’t believe how time has flown!
Congratulations !!! Used to love using your Mirfield branch with our late Harry ( Yellow Lab ) and then also Chester ( Chocolate ). So much care , expertise, professionalism , friendliness & humour too from you and everyone we dealt with – not forgetting all the rehab at Birchencliffe . Moving home meant we had to find new vets ….. No one has yet reached Donaldsons standards ( 3 attempts ! ). Martin , I know you are a sucker for a Labrador so here is a pic of my two.
Congratulations to you both on your 20 years .
Congratulations Rachel!! Wow!! 20 years!! ð
You and your staff were so good to Bonnie our Lurcher and so supportive when she sadly had to be put to sleep. We are so pleased to see you are supporting Tia greyhound and lurcher rescue and look forward to not having to visit you very often (all being well) with our greyhound girls! ðð
How much is this plse
I expressed my concern a few yrs ago with a lady who did small animal boarding. Cages in the smoke filled kitchen and an ash tray full to the brim. My animals did not stay and probably wouldn’t of lived the two weeks. If it’s bad for us it’s got too be for them. .a great advert .
Sorry Martin, but I find it most disappointing that as an ABS member you have never bothered to elbow score Blossom. I accept that for the ABS scheme it is a “recommendation” rather than a “requirement” but as a vet you will be aware of the problems relating to elbows.
So can we assume that as a vet, and as a member of the KC Assured Breeder Scheme, you run all the tests for inherited conditons in the breed as recommended by the Labrador Breed Council – and set out in this document? http://www.labradorbreedcouncil.co.uk/documents/Health%20Sub%20Cttee%20Docs/Inherited%20tests%20for%20the%20Labrador%202010.pdf
Martin, I can only go on the information on the KC website and that shows no elbow score for Blossom. Maybe you need to ask them to update their records.
Thanks for another year of excellent care. Merry Christmas x
A very Happy Christmas to you all ð Mirfield branch you rock! ð
Thanks for the advice and Merry Christmas 🙂
Also it is NOT yet compulsory to microchip cats, despite what pets at home are telling people
And you don’t need a babysitter like you do with children
Phil Rarty Senior see what i mean! we need a dog ð¶
My cat had this and we opted for surgery and he’s back to his tubby happy self ð
My car had this, they wanted to use her when they were pioneering this treatment……she was too far advanced. Brilliant if your cat can have it.
works better on cats than cars! 🙂
I know! Such a dissappointment!! Lol
DON’T DO IT !
I am so pleased this has been put out, the horror stories I hear of dog breeders giving human medication and cause unnecessarily suffering.
Pet forums are the worst always ready to give their unprofessional advice, makes me cringe!
“Vets” are vets for a reason.
No way should you give human medication to an animal unless under the guidance of your vet.
Don’t know if you saw the post on Mirfield Matters asking for a good vet in Mirfield? over 40 posts all saying – DONALDSONS! Not the cheapest but overwhelmingly agreeing the most caring and friendly!
We’ve used them for over 15 years as Our large animal vets and we wouldn’t change
Thanks so much Donaldsons from all at Springwell Farm
