Tia Greyhound Rescue recently relocated to a new Rehoming Centre on the edge of Doncaster and will be hosting their first Open Day at the new site this Sunday. With fun events for pet owners young and not-so-young, it looks certain to be a great day.

Members of staff from Donaldson’s Vets will be in attendance during the day manning a stall outside but also conducting guided tours of the brand new Surgical Suite that has been set up at the Rescue Centre so that we can treat Greyhounds on-site.

Tia was established back in 1997 and was named after the very first dog they rescued. The charity has come a long way in that short time and the new site at Doncaster has lots of potential. With plans to construct kennels for nearly 200 dogs, set up a café and a learning centre, they will certainly have their work cut out.

In addition to Greyhounds, Tia also rescue Heavy Horses such as Clydesdales and Shire Horses. With 70 Acres of land at Doncaster, their desire to increase that side of their rescue work can now become a reality.

Donaldson’s Vets are proud to be associated with the great work that Tia do and we will be regularly sending a Vet and Nurse team to Doncaster to man the Veterinary Facility. We will be overseeing the health needs of all the dogs at the rescue centre and performing neutering surgery and dentistry on site with more complex cases being transferred back to the Maple Street Hospital in Huddersfield.

Tia is entirely run on donations from the public. They receive no money from the racing industry and so the Open Day is one of their major fundraising events in the year.

There will be a variety of stalls this year, there are dog show classes for Greyhounds, Lurchers and other breeds, an egg & spoon race for kids and adults, two competitions – photography and drawing. I will be giving guided tours of the Vet Facility including a look inside the brand new Surgical Suite.

With regard to the Heavy Horses, there will be a demonstration on how these beautiful animals are prepared for showing.

Everyone is welcome; whether you have a Tia Rescue Greyhound, are thinking of having a Greyhound or if you are just looking for a fun family day out and want to support the work of one of the most well regarded animal charities in the region, please come along and have a great day out!
