Breast Cancer Awareness Month

October 23, 2014

This week’s Vet Column has a slightly different theme than usual. This Friday, the normally restrained dress code at the Donaldson’s surgeries will be discarded as we will be supporting Breast Cancer Awareness Month by hosting a “Pink Friday” event.

Traditionally at Donaldson’s Vets we have always supported and raised money for a variety of animal charities but this Friday 24th October we are holding a Pink Friday event in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month,  to support thousands of women waking up to the harsh reality of breast cancer every day. This reality has been highlighted to us recently as one of our colleagues is currently undergoing treatment for breast cancer. Having watched her bravely tackle her illness, this charity is especially close to our hearts and it seems even more important for us to show our support for this worthy cause.

Cancer can often be the ‘Pink Elephant’ in the room and for many of us until you have had a friend, colleague or family member go through it you have no idea of the amazing courage that is required to fight this life changing disease.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and was established internationally some 28 years ago with a Pink theme. Pink can have many shades, some lighter, some darker, but all the same colour. And though not all Pink Ribbon stories will have a happy ending, they all deserve to be told.

At all of our Donaldson’s surgeries we will be encouraging all staff and clients to get involved in the fund raising by wearing an item of pink and donating £2 for dressing up, even our large animal vets will be collecting whilst out on calls with pink buckets! There will be tea and cakes, various games and challenges, a raffle with some fantastic prizes donated by local businesses and our commercial suppliers at each surgery.  Please also take a look at our Donaldson’s Facebook page as we are doing a wig challenge in support of those losing hair whilst having treatment.  We look forward to seeing you at one of our surgeries to join all our staff raising money for this worthy cause (and have a cup of tea and some homemade cake).
